I attended a conference of school counselors, where the latest ideas were presented in the field of student counseling. I went to a session on the development of self-discipline and responsibility, wondering what these concepts mean for people integrated into traditional education. For me, self-discipline means the ability to pursue goals without external coercion; Responsibility means taking appropriate measures on its own initiative, without being asked by others. For those who signed up, both concepts related only to the child’s ability to do their assigned class work.
Education can be seen as a process in which a society transfers knowledge, values and skills from one generation to the next. Learning can be defined as acquiring new skills, knowledge and values. Both learning and education have a major influence on the mind and character of an individual. However, learning is the basic instinct that all people possess and on the other hand, education is acquired by people.
An International Development Agency project called Buurne.com, launched with the support of former US President Bill Clinton, uses the Internet to enable individuals to participate in social development issues. In informal learning, there is often a reference person, a partner or expert, to guide the student. When students have a personal interest in what is taught informally, students tend to expand their existing knowledge and come up with new ideas on the subject being learned. Although considered “alternative” today, most alternative systems have been around since ancient times. After the public school system developed widely from the 19th century, some parents found reasons for dissatisfaction with the new system. Alternative education has been partially developed in response to alleged limitations and failures of traditional education.
What I find important is to realize that in certain situations we can gain some knowledge and also create opportunities to learn something. I agree that education and learning are not the same concepts. For me, learning is a process that doesn’t stop, we learn every day, we acquire new skills and knowledge.
As we move forward, the testing process against a standardized curriculum will increasingly be challenged by a new collective opportunity to learn what we want, and to choose the content, time, teacher and device we want. Most of us are very familiar with the left side of this graph. We went to school, university or other formal education and we are very familiar with the rules of involvement. You listen to the teacher, you take it out, you jump through the hoops and you get your reward in the form of accreditation.
In today’s education systems, we are encouraged to learn how to learn and improve skills through the use of innovative technologies. Learning is integrated with education and improving people’s learning skills depends on the education we have encouraged. That is why learning is part of our lives when we have to learn new things in this changing world. As our environment becomes more and more complex, more organizations realize that an LMS is not enough to have an impact on learning. Usually the administrator controls all aspects of learning, including content and rhythm, with an LMS. Limited offers of fixed learning paths to follow often make learning boring and repetitive.
Storytelling has passed on knowledge, values and skills from one generation to the next. When cultures began to expand their knowledge into skills that could easily be learned through imitation, formal education developed. In direct definition, teaching on a particular topic gives lessons to a group of students. While learning gains knowledge by studying, being taught and experiencing. Many will assume that teaching is more important than learning, the truth is that learning is more important because the ultimate goal is to teach. Students can learn without teachers, but teachers cannot teach without students.
Canning and Callan reported on three higher education institutions in the UK that have used a self-defined learning approach . His research shows that he supports individual control of learning, professional development, critical thinking and reflection. Reflective practice helped students gain more control türkiyədə təhsil over their learning, understand it and apply it to practical situations. The current paradox is that while the price of education is increasing exponentially in most countries, the cost of learning is actually rising to zero, with millions of excellent learning materials available online for free.
To be more specific, education helps to ensure equal opportunities for everyone in society and allows us to have a common knowledge area to communicate and do business together. But ultimately, the ability to learn is essential and we can be critical of what we receive from education. Agreements, in systems or even in ideas that schools share internationally, have led to an increase in international student exchanges. The European Socrates-Erasmus Program facilitates exchanges at all European universities.
